Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
Gathrd is a private photo and video album for events. Gathrd is published by S M Jenkins (“Gathrd”, “we”, “us”). This policy explains what we collect, why, who receives it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. Questions: support@wegathrd.com.
The short version
- Photos and videos you add to an event are visible to the people in that event, and to no one else.
- We do not sell your personal information, we do not show ads, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
- Every uploaded photo is checked by an automated safety service, and reported content is reviewed by people.
- You can delete your account and its data at any time, in the app or by email (see Delete your account).
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: email address, display name, and a phone number if you choose to verify with one. Sign-in uses an emailed link or code.
- Photos, videos and event content: the photos and videos you upload, event names, dates, locations you enter, invite codes, roles, and the choices you make about keeping or downloading media.
- Reports and messages to us: reports you file about content or people, and emails you send to support.
- Invitations: if you invite someone by email or phone number, that address or number may be stored with the invitation.
Information from your device, only if you allow it
- Camera and microphone: to take photos, record video (with sound) and scan QR codes. Microphone access is used only while you record a video.
- Photos you choose: on Android we use the system photo picker, so Gathrd sees only the photos and videos you select. On iPhone, Gathrd can also look at photos in your library that were taken during an event (the “Auto-Gather” feature) if you give photo-library access.
- Location: approximate or precise location while the app is open, to find nearby events and to check that a photo belongs to an event. We do not collect location in the background. Photos can contain location metadata (EXIF); we use it for event matching and organization, we do not show raw GPS coordinates to other attendees, and uploaded images may be re-encoded to reduce the metadata they carry.
- Contacts: if you allow contacts access, Gathrd reads your contacts on your device so you can pick people to invite. We do not upload your address book; only the people you choose to invite are used.
- Notifications: if you allow notifications, we store a push-notification token for your device so we can send event updates and safety or billing notices.
Information collected automatically
- Purchases: if you buy a membership or add-on, Apple or Google processes the payment. We and our subscription provider (RevenueCat) receive your subscription status and an app-user identifier, not your card number.
- Crash and performance reports: when the app crashes or errors, a report with your device model, operating-system version, app version and a technical trace is sent to our error-reporting provider (Sentry). We configure it not to send your name, email or photos, and we scrub identifying details from reports.
- Security and operations logs: sign-in events, IP address, request logs and usage records needed to run the service, limit abuse and enforce plan limits.
How we use information
- To create your account, sign you in, and run private event albums, invitations and roles.
- To store, process, display, download and delete the photos and videos in your events.
- To check events and photos against location and time rules you or the host set.
- To keep Gathrd safe: detect prohibited content, review reports, prevent abuse and fraud, and enforce our Terms, Community Guidelines and Child Safety Standards.
- To provide memberships and add-ons, apply plan limits, and send billing and event notices.
- To fix bugs, measure reliability and answer support requests.
Automated photo checks
Every photo uploaded to Gathrd is sent to OpenAI’s moderation service, which automatically flags content such as sexual content, violence or self-harm. Flagged photos may be held back from the event and reviewed by us. OpenAI processes the image only to return a safety result. Reports from users are reviewed by people. We may remove content, lock events, suspend accounts, preserve evidence and report illegal content, including child sexual abuse material, to the appropriate authorities.
Who can see your content
Photos and videos in an event are visible to the host and to guests who have joined that event, according to the event’s settings. Hosts can remove content and people from their events. Guests can download photos only where the host allows it. If someone saves or shares a photo outside Gathrd, we cannot control what they do with it.
Who we share information with
We share information only with service providers that help us run Gathrd, under terms that limit their use of it:
- Supabase – database, sign-in and server functions.
- Cloudflare – media storage, video processing and delivery, and our websites.
- OpenAI – automated safety checks on uploaded photos (see above).
- RevenueCat, Apple and Google – subscriptions, purchases and billing. Card payments, where offered, are processed by a payment provider and not stored by us.
- Sentry – crash and error reports.
- Apple, Google and Expo push services – delivering notifications to your device.
- Email delivery providers – sending sign-in links and service emails.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to respond to valid legal process, to protect people from harm, or as part of a merger or sale of the business (we would tell you first). We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for advertising.
How long we keep information
- Event media: kept while the event is active and for a limited period afterward, shown in the app, so hosts and guests can choose what to keep. Media that no member plan is keeping is then deleted. Failed or ended payments start a 7-day countdown with notices before anything is deleted.
- Deleted media and accounts: when you delete content or your account, it is removed from the service and from storage shortly afterward. Copies in backups may persist for a short time before being overwritten.
- Safety and legal records: reports, moderation decisions, audit logs and evidence of serious abuse may be kept longer where needed for safety, legal compliance or to prevent repeat abuse.
- Billing records: kept as long as tax and accounting rules require.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account: Profile → Delete My Account in the app, or by email (details).
- Permissions: you can turn camera, microphone, location, contacts, photo and notification access on or off in your device settings at any time. Gathrd still works for the features that do not need them.
- Access and correction: you can edit your name in the app. To ask for a copy of your information or a correction, email us.
- Your local rights: depending on where you live (for example California, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom) you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our use of your information, and to complain to a data-protection authority. Email us to use these rights; we will respond within 30 days.
Children
Gathrd is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we will delete it. Photos of children may appear in family events; they are visible only to people the host admits. We prohibit child sexual abuse and exploitation and act on reports immediately; see our Child Safety Standards.
Security and international transfers
We use encrypted connections, access controls and signed, expiring links for media, and we limit who at Gathrd can reach personal data. No system is perfectly secure. Our providers operate in the United States and other countries, so your information may be processed outside the country where you live.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app or by email.
